Removing burn stains on polished furniture

If you spill hot water or a hot drink on polished furniture, you will get a burn stain.

Removing such stains is not always effective. However, you can sprinkle the stain with cigarette ash in order to cover it. Then press a burnt cork against the stain. If this method is not effective, it may be helpful to rub stain with a specially prepared cloth. Wrap salt in it and dip in a mixture of methylated spirits and linseed oil in equal proportions. Finally, use a soft, clean cloth to polish the furniture.
