Borax is a natural, environmentally friendly and cost-effective substance that can be used in the household in a wide variety of ways. It is easily available in drug stores, chemical stores or on the Internet.


You can use it even when children or animals, who can be the cause of many stains, are at home and could be harmed by chemical substances. Borax is a universal product that could be used for cleaning and washing. It can be used for cleaning gold and silver. For this purpose, mix borax with lemon juice in 50/50 proportions. Wash the surface with this mixture and rinse it with warm water. Borax can be also be used for prolonging life of cut flowers. Simply add a teaspoon of it to the water in a vase. It can also be used as a neutralizer of foul odors or as a cleaning product to the kitchen and bathroom or as a bleacher, stain remover and for laundry.

Borax can easily be used for cleaning curtains, tablecloths, bleaching tea, coffee, wine, fruit or vegetable stains. In order to remove such stains or to refresh white fabrics you just need to soak it for 30 minutes in a solution consisting of 4 liters of water with the addition of a tablespoon of borax and then wash it. Borax can also be used as a substance against wasps and hornets. Simply dissolve borax in water with the following proportions: 1 portion of borax for every 9 portions of water and sprinkle the nest of insects with it. Wait until it dries and repeat the procedure. It can be used against domestic insects as well or for ants. Simply prepare a syrup by boiling half a glass of water with a glass of sugar. Then add a tablespoon of borax and mix it well. Place it on a flat vessel (e.g. on a saucer) in a place where bugs show up.

You can also mix borax with boiled egg yolk, but you have to make sure your pet or your child does not eat such a poison. Similar procedures apply for cockroaches. Borax is also a universal cleaning product. Just dissolve 2 tablespoons of borax in 2 glasses of warm water with the addition of 2 tablespoons of vinegar. You can add several drops of your favorite essential oil.
